CZ Finished His 4-Month Sentence
Binance’s founder was released from a correctional facility in California yesterday, after being held in custody for four months. He pleaded guilty in November 2023 for failing to implement adequate money laundering at Binance.
As noted by Bloomberg, Scott Taylor, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons, confirmed that Zhao had been released from a halfway house in Long Beach, California, on Friday.
He had reported to a low-security facility in June to serve his four-month sentence.
Binance Remains the Most Important Crypto Exchange
Even with all the turmoil triggered by the events around CZ, Binance continues to remain the most important crypto exchange in the industry.
The exchange is now led by Richard Teng who previously served as the head regulator for Abu Dhabi Global Market.
Yi He, the mother of three of Zhao’s children and one of the co-founders of Binance also remains an important figure at the exchange.
Binance now has over 231 million registered users, revealing their faith and trust in the exchange.
CZ’s Upcoming Plans
Before his sentencing, CZ announced a new initiative via X called Giggle Academy, a non-profit online education platform.
Before he stepped down in November, he also noted via a message that he would be open to being a coach and mentor to upcoming entrepreneurs.
Even if CZ is no longer the CEO of Binance, he is still the company’s largest stakeholder and this will probably give him important influence on the exchange’s future direction.
It remains to be seen what other plans CZ has now that he is a free man.
