First Bitcoin Purchase and Stock Increase
In May, Semler made its initial Bitcoin purchase under its newly implemented reserve strategy, buying 581 BTC for $40 million. This acquisition resulted in a 25% surge in the company’s stock price. Semler emphasized Bitcoin’s potential as a hedge against inflation and a safe haven, attributing this to its unique scarcity and resilience.
ATM Offering and BTC Yield
Semler also disclosed that it had raised $21.5 million via an at-the-market offering, selling 505,544 shares under its Controlled Equity Offering agreement with Cantor Fitzgerald. This capital is being used to fund its Bitcoin purchases and other operational needs.
The company monitors the effectiveness of its Bitcoin strategy using a metric known as BTC Yield. BTC Yield quantifies changes in the ratio of the company’s Bitcoin holdings to its diluted shares outstanding, as explained in the press release.
From October 1 to November 15, the company’s BTC Yield was 18.9%, and from July 1 to November 15, 2024, it hit 37.3%.
Semler warned that BTC Yield is not a conventional financial measure and should be considered as one element in evaluating its Bitcoin treasury strategy.
